Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology is a state government aided regional cancer center and a tertiary cancer center which offers a comprehensive care to individuals of all strata of society. It’s the largest cancer center in Karnataka state. Presently designated as an Assistant Professor. I am actively involved in evaluating and decision making for the patients, regular teaching program for the surgical residents. Our operative work includes considerable number of minimally invasive surgery for stomach, colorectal cancers, Genito-urinary cancers and Video assisted Thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal cancers. Significant number of open HPB work is performed including, pylorus preserving pancreatico-duodenectomy, Hepatic resections, and radical cholecystectomy. Organ conservative surgery Inter-sphincteric resections, Partial cystectomy, breast conservative surgery- Oncoplasty techniques, Sentinel lymph-node biopsy for management of axilla in breast cancer are a few to list.

I wish to focus on developing a state of the art GI –Colorectal cancer management services and a breast-oncoplasty services which provides care from prevention to palliation with equal focus on education and research. Additionally I want to work on the impactful research questions in GI and colorectal cancers.

Working in organ specific, colorectal service has given me an in depth knowledge and a better understanding of the complexity of these malignancies and has refined my decision making. I was actively involved in decision making for patients along with senior consultants. During my six months tenure I have performed and assisted Cytoreductive surgeries (CRS) with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), I have underwent a dedicated training in advanced laparoscopic colorectal resections , have assisted and performed laparoscopic Sphincter preserving rectal resections, intersphincteric resections, abdominoperineal resections, pelvic exenterations, Lateral pelvic lymph-node dissection for pelvic malignancies and complete mesocoloic excisions. Have actively assisted robotic total mesorectal excision and have completed robotic simulator exercises.

I have completed my general surgery training in M.S. RAMAIAH MEDICAL COLLEGE, which is a recognized University teaching Hospital in Bangalore. This is a 1050-bedded tertiary level health care center. During my surgical residency, I had an experience of managing all types of General surgical and gastrointestinal surgical cases. I have also worked as casualty surgical registrar for a period of 1 year attending all types of emergency surgical cases including trauma cases. Trauma unit in M.S.R.M.Cis one of the busiest trauma unit in India. This unit manages large number of trauma cases per year including poly-trauma, head injury, chest trauma, abdominal trauma, blunt and penetrating trauma, extensive soft tissue injuries, degloving injuries, spine injuries and gun-shot injuries. During my residency at M.S.R.M.C, I had an opportunity to work in dedicated Onco-surgery care unit attached to general surgery department. I have worked in this unit in capacity of registrar for two months.
